Is Dating with Data an academic research study?

Yes, Dating with Data is an academic research study run by researchers at the University of Chicago.

 

Is Dating with Data a dating app?

Dating with Data is an academic research study. Part of the study involves participating in a matching portal, which is similar to a dating app - you will be able to create a profile, swipe on other people's profiles, and match with people. So while Dating with Data is not a standalone dating app, you will be able to use the matching portal similarly to how you would use a dating app.

What will I need to do in Dating with Data?

  1. Complete our intake form to sign up to participate in the study

  2. Create your profile for the matching portal by using the form we email you

  3. Access your matching portal 

  4. Complete a brief survey and access your match results

Our study is not open for recruitment yet, but if you are interested and want to hear from us when it opens, you can join our email list on the home page.

How will I get paid for participating in Dating with Data?

If you complete steps 1-4 detailed in the previous question, you will receive a $20 gift card from us by email. You will be able to choose your preferred gift card from thousands of top brands, including Amazon, Starbucks, Uber Eats, and many more.

Will I ever need to pay for anything in Dating with Data?

No, you will never need to pay for anything in Dating with Data. In fact, we will pay you for your participation. Dating with Data is a research study so we will pay you for your time, and we are not looking to make any money from it.

Who is eligible to participate in Dating with Data?

Anyone who is:​

  • A college student

  • Aged 18-22

  • Single and looking to date

  • A man looking to match with women / a woman looking to match with men

How do I match with people in Dating with Data's matching portal?

You will be able to view other people's profiles and swipe on them just like you would in a dating app. If two people both indicate interest in matching with each other, they will become a match. We will connect matches by sending them each other's email addresses, and will let them take it from there.  â€‹â€‹â€‹
